Re: FreakBoards 2024 SNES/GENS Book Club #2: ROCKET KNIGHT ADVENTURES vs SPARKSTER

Had to get in a bit late unfortunately, but I did manage to try all 3 out for a quick session. The characters in these games are pretty big for me, some of my favorite character designs, esp in the 90s animal guy mascot category. The games have been an influence for me with furry character design st...

Re: FreakBoards 2024 SNES/GENS Book Club #1: MARIO vs SONIC

Knuckles' Chaotix is a Game. I got to play it for a bit, so there's most likely more going on that I've yet to get (maybe). This game feels like one of those platformers from this era that's trying to do *everything* new or at least sort of off-center. The most clear is the rubberband system between...

Re: FreakBoards 2024 SNES/GENS Book Club #1: MARIO vs SONIC

Been a lot this month and this slipped through aa. I want to see if I can try a bit of knuckles chaotix but I'll probably finish my session after midnight, so I'll put a vote in before that. I'll put in for sparkster as well, the characters have been a favorite of mine but I never actually played th...

Re: FreakBoards 2023 NES/GB Book Club #7: ???

Posting at a dubiously late time, but I did manage to sneak in some time for a game! I was kind of flipping through the list of gameboy games to play (I almost picked Tail Gator too actually!), but then I saw this title screen and I felt like I was being called into this, I had to follow this creatu...

Re: FreakBoards 2023 NES/GB Book Club #6: Metal Gear (NES)

I beat the game and reached the credits! :] This was basically my first time playing an NES game, and it's the first one I've completed. More importantly, now that I have learned this crucial and unskippable lore for the Metal Gear series that simply can't be replicated by a wiki, I can finally pla...

Re: FreakBoards 2023 NES/GB Book Club #6: Metal Gear (NES)

this is a fascinating game that i would probably not play without savestates. there are ways to manage and it's not quite as brutal as it appears on booting up (note below of some things that make it not as bad + 1 early game spoiler) all items are kept on death, you can also grind consumables by re...

Re: FreakBoards 2023 NES/GB Book Club #4: Trip World (GB)

I was pretty excited to play this game, was one of those games i think i saw at a GDQ or something and was like "oh that's cool" and then immediately forgot about it for however many years. honestly, with how short it is and how it's pretty easy to get into, i 100% recommend playing it jus...

Re: FreakBoards 2023 NES/GB Book Club #2: Super Mario (And Wario) Land (GB)

slipping in right before the end but i have finished wario land 3 wooo. I think one of the big things about this game to me is how much world-building there is for a game that doesn't seem to have that much explicit lore, all the ways the treasures interact and change the world is genuinely so cool....
